New Leader Resources

If you're reading this, you should already have completed your background check and new leader introduction meeting. This page is a list of resources you'll use as you organize your troop, hold meetings, and go on field trips. There's a lot of information here but remember, you can always call or email your Troop Organizer or any Team Member. See our Contacts page for a list of Team Members available to you.

Setting Up a New Troop

Logistics Before you begin there are some decisions to be made. If you need some help, ask your troop organizer.

Parent meetingGet all paperwork filled in and signed.

Additional Training and Meetings

Service unit leader meetingUsually held on the third Tuesday of the month, September through May. See our leader meetings page for details and dates.
Program level training
(Brownie, Junior, etc.)
See council's website for training dates and registration information.
First aid/CPR trainingSee council's website for training dates and registration information.
Leadership EssentialsThis online training describes the Girl Scouts Leadership Experience for both adults and girls.
Council also offers this class in person. See council's website for training dates and registration information.
Volunteer EssentialsThis online resource includes all the miscellaneous information you'll need to run your troop. There are sections on finance, safety, working with girls, etc. You will return to this resource frequently as you encounter different questions.

Troop Activities

Safety Activity CheckpointsThis is an online reference to the Girl Scouts safety standards. There's one for each kind of activity you'll be doing with the girls. Read the appropriate information here while you're planning an event/field trip/meeting/etc.

Service unit eventsThe service unit offers quite a few events each year. Take a look at our Service Unit Events page to see what's planned. Note: You need a login and password to get to this information - you should have received this info in your introductory meeting. If you don't have it, you can email our webmaster.
Council eventsCouncil-wide events and community programs are listed in Program News, available online at council's website.
