We're glad you're here, and we want to help you enjoy your time in Girl Scouts. You have lots of support here in San Marcos! Use the various areas of this website, and ask as many questions as you need to. You'll find the list of people ready to help you on our Contacts page.
First Steps
| 1. | Contact your service unit | If you don't know who to contact, start with our membership development coordinator, Priscilla Chandra. She can give you the password for the next step. |
| 2. | Volunteer application and background check |
This is the first thing each new volunteer does. You need a password to get into this, get it from your service unit contact. Important: After you submit your background check request, email Priscilla Chandra so she will know to look for your clearance. |
| 3. | Online Volunteer Orientation | While you're waiting for your background check to clear, go through this online training from Girl Scouts of the USA. It takes under an hour total, and you can start/stop as needed. |
| 4. | Volunteer Essentials (Quick-Start only) | The Quick-Start portion is the first seven pages. Volunteer Essentials is a “Girl Scout handbook” and a tool for you to reference. You only need the Quick-Start guide now - you can reference the other sections of this guide later, as you need them. |
| 5. | Welcome meeting | Your service unit contact will set this up for you. It's your chance to find out more about the local resources here to support you, and to meet the people who will help you as you start your troop and enjoy many great years of Girl Scouting! |
Next Steps
After you've attended the Welcome Meeting, you're ready to get started! As you go through the process of setting up your troop, planning meetings, arranging field trips, and more, use our Leader Resources page for links to the info you will need. Need more? Your service unit team is here to help. Ask us anything!
